The biggest advantage of the new small
RC helicopters, is the crash and build features. Unlike expensive
larger models they are almost crash proof. Mine has crashed numerous
times without any damage. I have built model airplanes, spending
months, then if I got one crash free flight I was lucky. With my
wood models after the first crash they were often un-repairable
with lots of time and money lost. These new plastic pre-built helicopters
come ready to fly right out of the box and are a dream to fly. You
do not have to rebuild after every crash for much more fun flying!
Obviously they are less functional than a large expensive RC model,
but for the budget and fun they are a pleasant alternative. They
are designed for children 8yrs to adult who love to fly an RC helicopter.
It is a cheap hobby with ready to fly models. Another factor for
larger outdoor models is the wind factor. This is especially a pleasant
feature for these indoor models, if you live in a windy are that
would restrict model flying. The indoor models fly indoors and even
if they hit the walls or furniture they are not likely to cause
any damage.
Some of the models below have two main rotors that turn in opposite
directions, such as the Syma S107. This creates a gyroscope which
makes a more stable flying experience. The gyroscope effect of two
blades means they create a negative energy by canceling the energy
of the opposing blade.
The remote controls have 3 different signal channels so that they
do not affect the signal to another helicopter if it is flying at
the same time. The remote control has a cord that plugs into the
helicopter and charges it between each flight. One disadvantage
is that the flight time is not very long (6-8 minutes) and will
need to be recharged frequently. The remote control also has a trim
feature needed for helicopters to maintain a straight flight.
